Kava event at UH promotes peace

It's awa for everyone at Saturday's Hawaii Pacific Islands Kava Festival on the University of Hawaii-Manoa campus.

Call it awa or call it kava, the Awa Development Council of Hawaii would like you to consider the sacred plant in terms of this year's theme: “;I Maluhia ka Honua”;—“;So the World May Be at Peace.”;
The festival runs from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on the McCarthy Mall area between Varney Circle and Hamilton Library.
Events include kava-drinking, an apu (awa bowl) workshop, crafts, art exhibition by Solomon Enos, food and poi-pounding, featuring Hawaiian cultural practitioners, awa growers, health and nutrition specialists and scientists.
Entertainment includes Kupaaina, Steve Inglis, Michael Tannenbaum, Matty McIntire, Nick Ponce and Simple Soul.
