HMSA Foundation aids health programs

The Hawaii Medical Services Association Foundation approved the following grants totaling $419,415 to assist community organizations and health programs: West Hawaii Community Health Center, $150,000; Hilo Medical Center, $100,000; Hawaii State Center for Nursing, $52,000; University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine, $40,000; Hui Malama I Ke Kai Foundation, $24,700; Lanakila Pacific, $15,000; Maui AIDS Foundation, $10,000; Na Aikane O Pu'ukohola Heiau, $10,000; Hawaii Department of Health, $9,249; Muscular Dystrophy Association, $5,000; the Queen's Medical Center, $2,466; East Hawaii IPA Foundation, $1,000.

  Aloha United Way's Society of Young Leaders donated school supplies to more than 400 homeless students living in the Kaimuki-McKinley-Roosevelt complex area.

Aloha Pacific Federal Credit Union locations throughout the island served as collection points for the School Supply Drive from June through August. The Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii, Hawaiian Cement, Peterson Sign Co., Ala Moana Center, Jamba Juice and Hunt Building Co. Ltd. also made contributions.

  The Paul Kosasa family, owners of ABC Stores, gave $10,000 to the Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific Foundation to create the Kosasa Gait and Wheelchair Clinic.
