As Greg McMackin starts to prepare Hawaii for its next game against Louisiana Tech, the Warriors coach hopes the Western Athletic Conference can enlighten him on officiating in the team's last contest.

In Hawaii's 32-29 upset overtime win at Fresno State on Saturday, the Bulldogs were called for no penalties - a record - and at least two calls against the Warriors left some to scratch their heads.

“;I have a call in to the (WAC) commissioner (Karl Benson),”; McMackin said at his weekly news conference yesterday. “;I would like to have some clarifications, I've coached a long time and I've never been in a situation where a team doesn't get any penalties and you get 11 penalties.”;

No frustration seeped through the coach's tone, and he cautiously worded his responses on the subject. A dubious running-into-the-kicker call against UH in overtime - in which a fallen Calvin Roberts grazed the foot of Kevin Goessling, who then collapsed - nearly decided the game.

A pass interference call on cornerback Ryan Mouton during the Bulldogs' final drive of regulation helped set up a potential game-winning field goal by Goessling, which was blocked by Tua Mahaley to send the game into OT.

“;I wouldn't coach Ryan Mouton (any differently),”; McMackin said when asked. “;I've coached DBs all my life, (secondary coach) Rich Miano's played in the pros, and coached DBs for a long time. He played it exactly as we teach him to play the post.”;
