Man is charged in officer's stabbing

A homeless man was charged yesterday with first-degree attempted murder for allegedly stabbing a police officer early Wednesday at the Koko Head end of Waikiki Beach.

Kawika Ahquin, 27, was being held in lieu of $75,000 bail. He was arrested after the stabbing of the officer, who was among a group of officers who stopped Ahquin on an outstanding warrant.

The stabbing occurred after a foot chase at about 1:30 a.m., police said.

Woman arrested in Waianae attack

Police arrested a 70-year-old woman yesterday for allegedly attacking her daughter's 20-year-old ex-boyfriend.

At about 10 a.m. Wednesday, the two argued at a Waianae home.

The victim accused the woman of punching him in his face, causing a bruise under his eye, and threatening him with a hammer.

Police located the woman yesterday and booked her on suspicion of first-degree terroristic threatening and felony abuse.

Coast Guard saves Jet Skier off Oahu

U.S. Coast Guard rescuers spotted the dim light from the flashlight of a stranded 51-year-old Jet Skier and plucked him from the waters off Koko Head last night.

Gerald Lum, who departed on his Jet Ski from Kaiona Beach in Waimanalo at 2 p.m. yesterday, did not show up at 5 p.m. when he was expected to arrive at Hale O Lono Harbor on the southwest coast of Molokai. He was reported missing at about 7 p.m.

Lum is an experienced Jet Skier and has made the trip before, Coast Guard officials said. He was reportedly wearing a life jacket.

Coast Guard personnel on the Cutter Kiska, a 110-foot patrol boat from Hilo, located and rescued Lum after they noticed the faint light from his flashlight at about 10:20 p.m.

Lum was in good condition, according to Coast Guard officials.

His Jet Ski is mostly submerged in water, and has been marked with a strobe light to alert mariners of its location.

Armed robber hits Ewa Beach store

Police are looking for an armed man accused of robbing an Ewa Beach store last night.

At about 9:55 p.m. yesterday, a man entered a store on 91-831 Fort Weaver Road and robbed the lone employee of an undisclosed amount of cash at gunpoint, police said. Patrol officers responded and checked the area, but did not find the suspect.

The man, who is wanted for suspicion of first-degree robbery, is described as about 5-feet, 8-inches with a slim build. He was wearing a white T-shirt and fled on a mo-ped.

13-year-old claims assault by relative

Prosecutors have charged a 16-year-old Aiea boy who allegedly sexually assaulted a 13-year-old female relative.

Police said the girl and boy lived in the same household. The girl told her parent she had been sexually assaulted at 4:45 a.m. Sept. 17. She was taken to the Sex Abuse Treatment Center for examination.

The boy had fled the home but later turned himself in to police. He was charged Tuesday with first- and third-degree sexual assault and was sent to a detention home.

2 suspects sought in holdup attempt

Police are looking for two men wanted in an attempted robbery at a Waipahu gas station Tuesday night.

At about 10:45 p.m. Tuesday, one of the suspects entered the Tesoro gas station's convenience store at 95-050 Farrington Highway.

He allegedly brandished a handgun and demanded money. A second suspect soon entered and pulled the first suspect away to abort the robbery, police said.

The first suspect is described as about 20 years old, 5 feet 7 inches, 160 to 180 pounds, with short curly hair. He was wearing a dark blue hooded jacket and a red bandanna. The second suspect is about 5 feet 4 inches, 140 pounds, bald or with crew-cut hair.

Abuse of girlfriend leads to arrest

Police arrested a 21-year-old man Tuesday after he allegedly abused his girlfriend.

The suspect and his 30-year-old girlfriend live together in Makiki. At about 1 p.m. Tuesday the suspect allegedly slapped his girlfriend repeatedly and tried to strangle her.

The woman escaped and called police. The suspect was booked on suspicion of felony abuse. The woman declined medical treatment.

HONOLULU

Alleged thief steals beer from 2 stores

A 32-year-old man was arrested Tuesday morning after he allegedly stole beer from two Kalihi stores.

At about 10:45 a.m. the suspect entered a store and took a pack of beer. As the suspect left without paying, an employee tried to stop him.

The suspect allegedly pulled a knife on the employee, who ran back to the store. The suspect then walked to another store at North King and Kalihi streets, and the employee followed and called police.

The suspect allegedly stole another bottle of beer but found police waiting for him outside. He was arrested on suspicion of first-degree robbery and fourth-degree theft.

Teen is arrested in Kalihi robbery

Police arrested a 17-year-old boy Monday for allegedly robbing another teen in Kalihi.

At about 6:30 p.m. a 16-year-old boy was walking home in Kalihi when he was confronted by the suspect and another male. The two allegedly demanded money, assaulted the victim and took his backpack, cell phone and wallet.

Police were called, and one of the suspects was found nearby. The teen was arrested on suspicion of second-degree robbery.
