Maggie Q starring in action film
HONG KONG » Movie star Maggie Q will star in Chinese director Tian Zhuangzhuang's new movie “;The Warrior and the Wolf.”;
The movie also will feature Japan's Joe Odagiri and Taiwan's Tou Chung-hua, according to an international marketing official at Hong Kong's Edko Film.
Edko is making the combat epic set in ancient China with Singapore's Raintree Pictures.
Maggie Q, whose full name is Maggie Quigley, made her name in the Hong Kong film industry before moving on to Hollywood projects. Her recent American credits include the fourth installment in the “;Die Hard”; series, “;Live Free or Die Hard”; and “;Mission: Impossible III.”;
The actress grew up in Hawaii, the daughter of a Polish-Irish American father and a Vietnamese mother.
Vegetarians arise, tomorrow’s your day
Tomorrow is World Vegetarian Day, and for those who aren't quite sure what that means, Down to Earth is offering samples and advice to introduce the meatless lifestyle.
Brochures will be available and staff members will be on hand to answer questions, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at all five Down to Earth stores on Oahu and Maui.

Vocational scholarships offered
The Hawai'i Community Foundation is offering vocational education scholarships for spring enrollment in community colleges statewide.
Deadline to apply is tomorrow for those interested in careers in areas such as culinary arts, auto repair, diesel mechanics, cosmetology, computer graphics and assistive medical technology.

East-West Center hosts Nippon Culture Day
For a taste of the Japanese arts, visit the East-West Center Thursday for Nippon Culture Day.
The Japanese faculty of the Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures at the University of Hawaii-Manoa will lead workshops in calligraphy, ikebana, tea ceremony, gift wrapping, musubi-making, origami and the traditional game of kendama. Students will perform Okinawan music and dance.
Admission is free. The event takes place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Imin Center, garden level. Call 956-2082.
