New UH scholarship set at $50,000

The University of Hawaii Foundation has announced the establishment of the Eiro and Alice Yamada Endowed Scholarship of $25,000, to be matched by the University of Hawaii at Manoa's Shidler College of Business, for a total $50,000 award to a business student. The Yamada Scott Family Foundation has donated $250,000 to students and community organizations since 2000.


Pam Arnsberger, a professor and researcher at the University of Hawaii at Manoa's School of Social Work, received a Fulbright Fellowship for Senior Researchers at Queens University in Northern Ireland. Her research focuses on aging and the development of community-based long-term care. Arnsberger's most recent work included surveys on elder care for the state Legislature, for which she was awarded a Na Lima Kokua award from the Hawaii Pacific Gerontological Society.


The Society of the Friends of St. Patrick awarded $1,500 scholarships to Nathan Nakatsuka of Kamehameha Schools, who will enter Harvard University; Sinalyn Ancelmo of Farrington High School, Kapiolani Community College; Kimberly Ervin of Waianae High, Leeward Community College; Dajahvon Ferreira of Waianae High, Leeward Community College; and Chelsea Himalaya, Hawaii Preparatory Academy, Northern Arizona University.
