Sewage enters Ala Wai Harbor
People are advised to stay out of the Ala Wai Yacht Harbor for the next four days due to a sewer discharge.
The Clean Water Branch of the state Department of Health was notified of the discharge, which came from an unidentified vessel's holding tank. The discharge affects floating docks B, C and D.
Swimming is not allowed in the harbor, but hull cleaning does take place.
Programs focus on marine debris
The public is invited to learn about marine debris and its devastating effect on seabirds and other marine life during a series of Thursday evening programs at Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve.
The University of Hawaii Sea Grant Hanauma Bay Education Program is presenting the October talks and films in observance of Marine Debris Awareness Month and Beach Environmental Awareness Campaign Hawaii. The free lectures begin at 6:30 p.m. Parking and entrance to the bay are free after 5:30 p.m.
This Thursday includes “;Message in the Waves”; and “;The Synthetic Sea Story,”; exploring the dangers of plastic debris and impact on marine life.
