Hawaii will stick with Inoke Funaki as its starting quarterback as the Warriors prepare for this week's game at No. 22 Fresno State, UH coach Greg McMackin said last night.

“;We're going to go with Inoke and we'll have to figure out who our backup's going to be,”; McMackin said.

Funaki got the start in Saturday's loss to San Jose State, going 16-for-27 for 173 yards with three interceptions before being relieved by Tyler Graunke in the fourth quarter.

McMackin said Graunke's still-tender throwing hand factored into the decision and Funaki will get the first-team repetitions in practice this week. Graunke went 5-for-9 and also threw an interception, the last of UH's turnovers in the 20-17 loss to the Spartans.

McMackin said he'll meet with the team's medical staff today on the status of several players who left Saturday's game with injuries, including running back Kealoha Pilares and receiver Malcolm Lane. Both left the game in the first half with concussions. Linebacker Adam Leonard hurt his hamstring and defensive tackle Rocky Savaiigaea aggravated an arm injury in his season debut.

McMackin said cornerback Ryan Mouton also played through a rib injury while posting two tackles for losses and breaking up two passes against San Jose State.

“;He really showed a lot of guts,”; McMackin said.

The Warriors have another daunting challenge to prepare for this week when they visit Fresno State (3-1, 0-0 WAC) on Saturday. The Bulldogs, led by quarterback Tom Brandstater and running back Ryan Mathews, average 407 yards per game and are coming off a 36-31 win at UCLA.
