Lee to speak at QB Club meeting

Hawaii offensive coordinator Ron Lee will speak at tomorrow's Honolulu Quarterback Club luncheon.

Lee previously served as wide receivers coach for nine years under June Jones. He will discuss the Warriors offensive strategy in addition to addressing the outcome of UH's game against San Jose State.

Monica Roberts, pro wrestling promoter and entrepreneur, and Dave Kajihiro, vice president of Island Sports Media, are also slated to appear.

Roberts, founder of MediaStar Hawaii Inc., has been instrumental in bringing the Japanese pro wrestling organization Dragon Gate to Oahu.

Kajihiro is an avid Warriors fan whose weekly magazine covers a variety of topics in addition to sports.

Hawaii's Chow, Swanson earn medals

Honolulu's Mindy Chow earned a silver medal and Melinda Swanson a bronze at yesterday's U.S. Open judo championships at Colorado Springs, Colo.

In the 52kg final between two teenagers, Oklahoma's Kayla Chappell, 16, threw the 14-year-old Chow for a koka in the first 30 seconds of overtime.

Swanson, who finished second Friday in the over-78kg division, tied for third in yesterday's open competition.

Finishing tied for fifth were Beijing Olympian Taylor Takata (men's 66kg) and Taylor Ibera (women's 48kg).

Warriors 16th in Tucker golf tourney

The Hawaii men's golf team shot a final-round 316, ending with a two-day tournament total of 932 (301-315-316) to finish 16th overall yesterday at the Tucker Invitational at the University of New Mexico's Championship Course in Albuquerque, N.M.

Junior Robert Berton was Hawaii's top golfer, ending tied for 29th after finishing with an 8-over 224 (69-78-77).

UNLV won the tournament's team title, with Eddie Olson of the Rebels and Colorado's Derek Tolan sharing the individual title at 5-under 211.

Wahine 30th at Stanford meet

Hawaii's cross country team placed 30th yesterday in the Stanford Invitational. Sophomore Mariana Monasi led UH, finishing the 6K course in 23:58.

Puzey breaks BYUH record

Thomas Rivers Puzey set a 5K record as the Brigham Young-Hawaii men took the top eight spots to beat Chaminade at the Brigham Young-Hawaii Invitational yesterday. Puzey ran the course in 16 minutes, 3 seconds, breaking teammate Brendan McMaster's week-old record by 3 seconds.

On the women's side, Amanda Whitford set a course record for BYUH and the Seasiders defeated the Silverswords. Whitford ran ahead of the field to finish the 5K race in 18:16.

Vulcans top Sea Warriors in soccer

Adele Letro scored two goals, helping Hawaii-Hilo defeat Hawaii Pacific 5-0 in a women's soccer match yesterday in Kaneohe.

Vulcans place ninth in Washington

Hawaii-Hilo's Stephen Zane shot a 3-over 146 to tie for 23rd place in the Western Washington Invitational yesterday in Bellingham, Wash.

The Vulcans placed ninth, 33 strokes behind tourney champion Sonoma State.

UHH tops Notre Dame de Namur

Josimara Pinheiro had 13 kills for Hawaii-Hilo in a 25-8, 25-23, 25-17 women's volleyball victory over Notre Dame de Namur yesterday in Hilo.
