Moana Surfrider chef gives class on gnocchi

If gnocchi has always seemed somewhat of a mystery to you, chef Rodney Uyehara of the Moana Surfrider is offering to explain how this pasta specialty is made, in a Gourmet Cooking Hawaii class, noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at the hotel's Beachhouse restaurant.

His menu will include Fresh Spinach Gnocchi with Turkey Bolognese, Braised Veal Cheeks and Fresh Berry Pudding with Hawaiian Sweetbread.

Cost is $99, which includes personal instruction in a hands-on class, a three-course meal and chef apron. Wine pairings are $19 more. Uehara's classes repeat on the first Saturday of every month. Call 735-7788.

MAC 24-7 patrons have chance to Bond

MAC 24-7 offers film fans a chance to bond with Bond with a promotion tied to the next James Bond film, “;Quantum of Solace.”;

For each entree ordered from Wednesday through Nov. 4, customers will receive a scratch-off ticket, with winners invited to a premiere party at Ward Theatres.

The restaurant is also hosting Bond theme nights: Next Sunday, dress as a Bond villain; Oct. 10, dress in tuxedo as your favorite Bond; Oct. 17, dress as a Bond girl; Oct. 31, dress as a gondolier or serenade the waiter with a Bond theme song; Nov. 7, “;Election Night,”; vote with your business card for the best Bond.

The “;Quantum of Solace”; premiere is set for Nov. 14, with appetizers and shaken-not-stirred martinis.

Tasting of 5 rare import wines offered at Vino

Frank Seidl of Acadia Imports leads a tasting of five rare, handcrafted wines brought to the United States through a new Kendall Jackson program, at 5:40 p.m. Oct. 10 at Vino in Restaurant Row.

He'll bring photographs of the vineyard sources for each wine, and will discuss how growing conditions affect the wine in the bottle.

To be tasted: 2006 Paco y Lola Albarino (Spain), 2004 Vignes d'Elisa Muscadelle (France), 2003 Domaine Ligneres “;Aric”; (France), 2003 Prima Voce (Italy), 2005 Yangarra Estates “;Cadenzia”; (Australia).
