Suspect arrested in Kalihi shooting
Police arrested a 34-year-old Waikiki man in connection with a shooting in Kalihi that injured one man.
Police said the suspect drove to a home on Lima Street where a group of friends had gathered shortly before midnight Friday.
An argument broke out and the suspect got into his vehicle, drove about 100 feet and then got out of the vehicle and fired several rounds from a handgun at the group, police said.
A bullet struck a 27-year-old man in the leg. He was hospitalized in stable condition.
Police were called, and the suspect was arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted second-degree murder and a firearms violation. The gun was not recovered.
Mo-ped driver injured in collision
A 43-year-old man is in critical condition after crashing his mo-ped into a convertible yesterday, police said.
At about 11:40 a.m. yesterday, the victim was riding his mo-ped and merging onto Ala Wai Boulevard from McCully Street. The mo-ped struck a 2008 Chrysler convertible on Ala Wai Boulevard driven by a 28-year-old man.
The driver was knocked off the mo-ped. He was taken to the Queen's Medical Center in critical condition. It is unknown whether drugs or alcohol were factors. The convertible's driver was not injured.
Man accused of copper theft
Police arrested a 27-year-old Kalihi man who was allegedly stealing a copper gutter attached to a vacant building Friday in Kalihi.
Officers received a report of the copper theft in progress at 531 Puuhale Road and arrested the man for theft.
Crash critically injures person
Police closed the town-bound lanes of the Likelike Highway for several hours last night for the investigation of a single-vehicle accident in which one person was critically injured.
At about 5:31 p.m., emergency officials responded to a call of a motor vehicle accident on Likelike Highway near Valley View Drive.
Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Capt. Earle Kealoha said a town-bound vehicle with two people inside apparently hit a light pole, went over an embankment, rolled over and landed on its side. One person was able to get out of the vehicle on his own. The other was in critical condition, police said. All Honolulu-bound lanes of the highway remained closed at 9 p.m.
Bank robbery suspect surrenders
The suspect in a Kaimuki bank robbery Thursday turned himself into police yesterday after his picture was featured Friday in a CrimeStoppers bulletin.
Police said the suspect entered the Bank of Hawaii on Waialae Avenue, approached a teller and demanded money. The suspect said he had a weapon, but none was seen. The suspect ran off with money, and fled in the Koko Head direction on Waialae Avenue.
A CrimeStoppers news release displayed a surveillance camera photo of him and was made public Friday.
The 34-year-old suspect then surrendered at police headquarters and was arrested last night on suspicion of first-degree robbery.
