The Hawaii Tourism Authority has postponed its decision on whether its embattled chief executive, who has been accused of using his state laptop to forward racist, sexist and pornographic e-mails to friends, stays or goes.

Members of the Hawaii Tourism Authority were slated to meet Monday to discuss CEO Rex Johnson's standing; however, they have postponed that action to Thursday. The meeting, which will take place at 11:30 a.m. in Executive Board Room A at the Hawaii Convention Center, will be followed by an executive session.

“;We are trying to get as many board members at the meeting as possible,”; said HTA Chairman Kelvin Bloom, adding that he had hoped to meet earlier.

The HTA docked Johnson's pay to $200,000 and cut his contract to one year in August as discipline for using his state laptop to forward e-mail porn to friends. Now, he is facing further discipline and possible termination for allegations that he also sent racist and sexist e-mails.

Johnson, who has repeatedly apologized for his actions, has received support from the visitor industry and from supporters Sens. Donna Kim and Colleen Hanabusa. However, others, including Gov. Linda Lingle, have demanded that he be removed from his post.

“;We want him fired,”; said Kathryn Xian, non-executive director of Girl Fest Hawaii and Girl Fest Bay Area. “;At this point, it doesn't send a good message if the HTA allows him to keep his job or to simply resign.”;

Alphonso Braggs, president of the Hawaii branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, said that he has met separately with Bloom and with Johnson. While Johnson apologized, Braggs said he is still advocating his dismissal.

“;Every day that they wait just further sanctions his actions,”; said Braggs, who is slated to lead an NAACP protest march through Waikiki today.

Protesters will pass out leaflets and collect petition signatures, he said.
