BYU back on UH slate

Just about a decade after Hawaii's rivalry with Brigham Young seemed to flicker and fade, the series between the schools will be rekindled.
The schools announced a home-and-home series between the former Western Athletic Conference members yesterday. The first game is set for Sept. 8, 2012, in Provo, with BYU returning to Aloha Stadium in 2013.
“;Playing BYU has always been a thrill for our fans as well as our coaches and players,”; Hawaii athletic director Jim Donovan said. “;I'm very pleased we were able to work out an agreement and continue this friendly rivalry.”;
Hawaii and BYU last met on Sept. 6, 2002, with BYU winning 35-32 to avenge UH's 72-45 rout the previous year.
The Cougars represented the biggest target on Hawaii's schedule in the 1980s and '90s. But the rivalry dissipated when BYU and seven other schools left the WAC to form the Mountain West Conference in 1999.
BYU won 10 straight meetings from 1978 to 1988 before UH scored back-to-back blowouts in 1989 and '90.
Hawaii is also close to finalizing an extension to its four-game series with UNLV, another MWC school, which runs from 2009 to 2012.
