Isle gas prices continue to drop
Gasoline prices continued dropping during the past week, and the statewide average declined by three cents to $4.27 a gallon for regular unleaded, according to AAA.
Yesterday's average price in Honolulu was $4.17 a gallon for unleaded, down two cents from last week's price, 13 cents less than last month, and $1.07 higher than this time last year. In Hilo, the average price was $4.33 a gallon, two cents below last week, 11 cents less than last month, and $1.08 higher than last year. The average price in Wailuku was $4.58 a gallon, two cents less than last week, 12 cents less than last month, and $1.05 higher than last year.
“;We're continuing to see gasoline price shift downward throughout the islands,”; AAA Hawaii Regional Manager Richard Velazquez said in a statement.
Dick Construction restructures
Dick Construction Co., whose affiliates include Dick Corp., Dick Pacific and Dick International, said yesterday it has completed a restructuring plan that includes the sale of select assets to a new global construction company called dck worldwide LLC.
Dick Pacific has built numerous projects in Hawaii and Guam, including the U.S. Pacific Command Headquarters at Camp Smith and the Wal-Mart and Sam's Club in Honolulu.
Dck worldwide will operate in North America, Pacific Rim, Guam and the Caribbean. The company will offer its core services of construction and construction management in addition to expanding into program management and property development.
Kofax to digitize isle agency files
Kofax Plc, a Basingstoke, England-based provider of document automation services, said Tuesday it was awarded a contract with the Hawaii Child Support Enforcement Agency, a division of the state Department of the Attorney General.
Kofax will enable the agency to process and digitize its more than 110,000 case files, which include more than 6 million pages. The more than 200 different types of documents, such as court orders, judgments and payment data, are currently created in a paper format or received via fax or mail and manually stored in filing cabinets. The new system will electronically capture the file content and make it accessible throughout the organization in a secure image repository.
Wallen wins CEO triathlon title
Aaron Wallen, president of Haas Insulation Inc. in Honolulu, won the CEO challenge title at the 2008 USA Triathlon Age Group National Championship with a time of 2 hours, 10 minutes and 19 seconds.
Nine chief executives competed for the title in Portland, Ore., last week. The event was hosted by Boulder, Colo.-based CEO Challenges, which designs sport competitions for executives.
Wallen is an accomplished amateur triathlete, having completed three Ironman World Championships and eight 70.3 races. He recently finished second in his age group and seventh overall in the Lavaman Triathlon in Kona. This was Wallen's first CEO Challenge competition.

Mauna Kea hotel in top U.S. list
Elite Meetings International Inc., the publisher of Elite Meetings magazine catering to meeting and incentive planners, said Tuesday it has named the Big Island's Mauna Kea Beach Hotel to its list of top five U.S. hotel makeovers.
Other selections were: Fontainebleau Miami Beach, Florida, Four Seasons Resort and Club Dallas at Las Colinas, Texas, Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort & Spa at Gainey Ranch, Ariz., and Westin Mission Hills in Rancho Mirage, Calif.
