Man charged in Kalihi shooting

Authorities charged a 24-year-old man with attempted murder yesterday for allegedly shooting at a 27-year-old man in Kalihi in July.

Police arrested Eddieson A. Reyes of Honolulu Tuesday in the July 12 shooting at Amelia and North School streets. He was also charged with third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug and drug paraphernalia.

Police said the victim was partying at his friend's house at 10:56 p.m. when the suspect drove by. The victim reportedly said something to the suspect, so he stopped his car and allegedly pulled out a shotgun.

Reyes got into a fight with the victim and allegedly fired a single shot at him and missed, police said. The victim was not injured. Reyes is being held on $75,000 bail.

Police seek suspect in robbery

Police searched last night for a man who robbed a Kaimuki bank yesterday afternoon.

The suspect entered the Kaimuki branch of Bank of Hawaii on Waialae Avenue and approached a teller at 2:32 p.m. yesterday, demanding money and threatening the teller with use of a weapon, police said.

The teller gave the man an undisclosed amount of money, and the suspect fled.

Man accused of knifepoint heists

Police arrested a 33-year-old Kakaako man yesterday who allegedly committed two knifepoint robberies.

On Aug. 18, police said the man went into a Honolulu retail establishment allegedly wielding a knife and demanded money from a 31-year-old woman. He allegedly took some cash and fled in a vehicle, police said.

Then on Aug. 23, police found the vehicle unoccupied in Honolulu, got a search warrant and found the knife allegedly used in the robbery, along with drugs and drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle.

On Sept. 11, the man entered a Waipahu retail establishment allegedly brandishing a knife and demanded money, and fled in a vehicle, police said.

Police said the man was later identified in a photo lineup with the two robbery victims, and police arrested him yesterday morning at his home on suspicion of two counts of first-degree robbery and drug charges.

Rescued visitor in critical condition

Lifeguards rescued a visitor in his 50s from waters off Waikiki Beach yesterday afternoon.

Lifeguards pulled the man from the water at 3:19 p.m. and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the man, said Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city Emergency Services Department.

Emergency Medical Services arrived and took over CPR. Two firefighters assisted EMS with transporting the man, who was taken in critical condition to Straub Clinic and Hospital, said fire and EMS spokesmen.
