All night games for UH at Classic

The Hawaii men's basketball team is guaranteed three evening games in this year's 45th Annual Outrigger Hotels Rainbow Classic, no matter what the outcome of those contests.

Last year, the Rainbow Warriors lost their Classic opener to Louisiana-Lafayette and were relegated to daytime games - with minimal attendance - against St. John's and Georgia.

This year, Hawaii is paired up with Colorado State of the Mountain West on Dec. 27. Should the Rainbows lose, they'll still play in the 7:30 p.m. prime-time slot against either Vermont or George Washington on Dec. 29. And if Hawaii is not in the championship game on Dec. 30, the 'Bows will still play their consolation match at 5 p.m.

The other first-round pairings are Buffalo vs. Pepperdine, and Colorado vs. Coppin State.

3 Hawaii surfers eliminated in France

Roy Powers, Pancho Sullivan and Fred Patacchia, all of Hawaii, lost their third-round heats yesterday and were eliminated from the Quiksilver Pro France at Les Estagnots.

Kieren Parrow stopped Powers, Luke Stedman beat Sullivan, and Damien Hobgood defeated Patacchia to advance to the fourth round of the Association of Surfing Professionals World Championship Tour event.
