Lu garners another WAC soccer honor

Hawaii goalkeeper Kori Lu was named the Western Athletic Conference's player of the week.

Lu, a senior from San Clemente, Calif., had seven saves in a 2-1 win over UC Santa Barbara. She also got a shutout in a 0-0 tie against Montana.

The WAC honor is Lu's second of the year. She is the Rainbow Wahine's all-time leader in wins by a goalkeeper, minutes played in goal and solo shutouts.

Kussler tries out with NBDL team

Stewart Kussler, who played on the Pacific West Conference champion Chaminade teams in 2006 and 2008, participated in a tryout for the NBA Development League's Los Angeles D-Fenders last weekend.

The D-Fenders are an affiliate of the Los Angeles Lakers.

Hawaii-Hilo's Letro is player of week

Hawaii-Hilo senior forward Adele Letro earned Pacific West Conference soccer player of the week honors.

Letro, who hails from Davis, Calif., had a goal and an assist in a win over Academy of Art.

 

HPU opens golf season with win

Charlie Renfro and Matt De Morales of Hawaii Pacific shot a 76 to tie with Brigham Young-Hawaii's Kyle Kunioka for medalist honors in the opener for both teams at Turtle Bay's Fazio Course yesterday.

The Sea Warriors won the match by eight strokes.

 

Seasiders slam Crusaders in soccer

Natasha Aiono and Emily Mearns each scored a pair of goals as the Brigham Young-Hawaii women's soccer team beat Northwest Nazarene 5-2 yesterday in Phoenix.

The Seasiders (4-1) begin their PacWest season tomorrow at Grand Canyon.
