Lung Association awarded $25,000 grant

The American Lung Association of Hawaii received $25,000 from the Hawaii Medical Services Association Foundation to support its Open Airways for Schools PLUS program.

The lung association will expand its school-based asthma education and management program for students ages 8 to 11 to include parents, guardians and school personnel.

Milton E. Fricke, pastor of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, is the new president of the Kiwanis Club of Kahului, Maui, succeeding Kelvin Dang.

Jason Williams is first vice president; Bruce McDonald, second vice president; John Sakuma, secretary; and Ann Sakamoto, treasurer.

Board members are Lynn Araki-Regan, Walter Baloaloa, Kelvin Dang, Colleen Ichiyama-Kong, George Okamoto, Nelson Okumura, Keith Regan and Bill Ruidas.

Robert Ihaia Beck of Honolulu was promoted in July to the rank of Eagle Scout by the Aloha Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

He belongs to Unit 108, chartered by the Kahala Latter-day Saints Ward.
