Rainbow Wahine soccer team signs 4

The University of Hawaii announced the signing of four Hawaii high school soccer players for the 2009 season yesterday.

Mililani's Chelsey Goo and Kaitlynn Holt, Kauai's Skye Shimabukuro and Kapolei's Chaney Lopez signed national letters of intent to play for the Rainbow Wahine.

Goo and Holt were both first team Star-Bulletin All-State picks last season. Shimabukuro scored 20 goals to lead the Red Raiders to the Kauai Interscholastic Federation championship.

Lopez is a two-time All-State selection and led the Hurricanes to the state final in 2007. She's also a two-time U.S. national team pool player.

UH's Estes on Lombardi watch list

Hawaii football center John Estes was named to the preliminary watch list for the Rotary Lombardi Award. Estes, a senior, is among 47 players on the watch list for the award annually presented to the nation's top lineman or linebacker.

Estes has started all 41 games for the Warriors since breaking into the lineup as a freshman in 2006, and was named to the All-Western Athletic Conference first team the last two years. It is his second time on the Lombardi watch list.

Perez named WAC golfer of week

Hawaii senior Carolina Perez was picked as the Western Athletic Conference golfer of the week after finishing in the top 10 at the Fresno State Lexus Classic last week.

Perez's tie for eighth place at 4-over 220 in Fresno was the best out of any WAC competitor in the field.
