Man's body found in Nuuanu stream

Firefighters pulled what appeared to be the body of an elderly man from Nuuanu Stream, just mauka of the Nimitz Highway bridge, at about 8 a.m. yesterday.

Fire crews were called at 7:47 a.m. yesterday.

The Medical Examiner's Office had not identified the body or determined the cause of death last night.

Robber kidnaps drunken man

Police are looking for an unknown man in his 20s who kidnapped and robbed a drunken 27-year-old man and stole his vehicle Sunday morning, police said.

Police said that between 2 and 3 a.m., the man left a Waikiki nightclub and planned to sleep in the back seat of his vehicle because he was drunk.

As he was getting in the back seat, the assailant hit him on the back of his head and pushed him into the back seat. The victim passed out and upon regaining consciousness saw the assailant driving his vehicle in an unknown area of Honolulu.

The kidnapper brandished a knife and took the victim's cell phone, wallet and watch, then dropped him off in Tantalus. Then he fled in the man's vehicle.

Police said the man does not know his assailant.

NORTH SHORE

Fire destroys large Malaekahana cabin

A midmorning fire destroyed a five-bedroom cabin yesterday at Malaekahana State Park on the North Shore.

The fire caused an estimated $500,000 in damage, fire Capt. Terry Seelig said.

The Fire Department responded after the 10:28 a.m. alarm, dispatching 25 firefighters. The first company was on scene within three minutes, but “;the fire was already pretty involved in the structure,”; Seelig said.

He said there was a stiff wind at the cabin, which was just 50 yards from the beach.

Firefighters kept the blaze confined to the one cabin and brought it under control at 11:24 a.m. It was extinguished by 2 p.m.

No nearby structures were damaged.

The 2,500-square-foot cabin was not occupied at the time of the fire, Seelig said.

The cause remains under investigation.
