Charlie Trotter and Ming Tsai lead list of chefs at Roy’s gala
If you're primed for a bit of extravagance, chef Roy Yamaguchi can help. He celebrates the 20th anniversary of his original Hawaii Kai restaurant with a pair of events featuring an all-star roster of chefs.
Coming to town to mark the occasion are chefs Charlie Trotter, Nobu Matsuhisa, Francois Payard, Alessandro Stratta and Tetsuya Wakuda. They'll join Yamaguchi to prepare for his gala dinner, Oct. 4 at the Honolulu Fish Auction site, Pier 38.
How gala is this gala? Tables of 10 are $10,000, to benefit the Culinary Institute of the Pacific. No individual tickets will be sold.
A little less extravagant is a "walk-around" event the next night, Oct. 5, at Kapiolani Community College. Headliners here are Ming Tsai and Hiroyuki Sakai, the former "Iron Chef," joined by Hiro Sone of Terra in Napa Valley, Calif.; Lee Hefter of Spago Beverly Hills; Ron Siegel of the Ritz-Carlton San Francisco; Floyd Cardoz of Tabla in New York; Josiah Citrin of Melisse in Santa Monica, Calif. - and that's just part of the list.
Tickets are $200 to benefit the Culinary Institute of America.
Ticket sales began this week at Roy's restaurants in Waikiki (923-7697), Hawaii Kai (396-7697) or Ko Olina (676-7697).
