Kalani tennis coach Lee is award finalist

Kalani High School tennis coach Matt Lee is among 12 finalists for the United States Tennis Association Starfish Award. The award honors high school coaches who ensure every student who wishes to play represents the school team. Two national winners will be announced later this month.

The Office of Hawaiian Affairs gave a $20,200 grant to Chaminade University for the tour of a photography exhibit documenting the lives and special events of the Hawaiian monarchy. The photos were taken by Brother Bertram Gabriel Bellinghause, a Marianist educator and first head of Saint Louis College (predecessor to Saint Louis School). OHA also provided $13,000 for the transcript of Bellinghausen's diary, which will accompany his photographs.

Hale Kipa, a nonprofit agency that specializes in working with at-risk children, adolescents and their families, will receive a $500,000 grant from the Office of Hawaiian Affairs to help build a new facility on four acres off Fort Weaver Road in Ewa.

The new Hale Kipa Services Center and Residential Shelter complex will serve as headquarters for the organization and offer on-site educational and residential shelter programs.
