» The power surge continues for Shane Victorino (Saint Anthony), who hit home runs in back-to-back games last Sunday and Tuesday, increasing his season total to 11, one off his career high.
» Brandon League (Saint Louis) relieved starter Roy Halladay and pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings in a 4-2 loss to Cleveland yesterday. League has now pitched 6 1/3 scoreless innings over his last six appearances, striking out three and walking four. "It's nice to have a power right-hander out there," said Blue Jays manager Cito Gaston in an article on MLB.com. "I've tried to show him that I have confidence in him, and lately he's given me that confidence right back. That kid is gonna be a big part of this team when we win something."
» Tyler Yates (Kauai) left his team on Tuesday to tend to his wife, who had complications after giving birth to the couple's first child last weekend, according to Yahoo! Sports. The righty returned to the team on Friday. Yates last pitched on Monday, giving up five earned runs in a third of an inning in Pittsburgh's 13-7 loss to the Diamondbacks.
» Kila Kaaihue (Iolani) was named the Topps Texas League Player of the Month for August. Kaaihue, who was promoted to Triple-A Omaha on July 29, hit .314 with the Northwest Arkansas Naturals with 26 home runs and 79 RBI in 91 games. Since his promotion, the 24-year-old has batted .400 with four home runs and is in the midst of a nine-game hitting streak. "From an offensive standpoint, I don't think there's a player having that type of year," said J.J. Picollo, the Royals' director of scouting and development in an article on MLB.com.
» After allowing five runs in a relief appearance against Double-A Erie on July 28, Reid Santos (Castle) has pitched 6 2/3 scoreless innings in his last four appearances, allowing one hit, striking out eight and walking none.
» The San Diego Padres organization promoted pitcher Tyler Davis (Hawaii) from Single-A Eugene to Triple-A Portland yesterday. Davis was 1-1 with a 1.40 ERA in 17 games with the Emeralds in the short-season Northwest League.
