"Murder Casts a Shadow"

By Victoria Nalani Kneubuhl

University of Hawaii Press / $14.95

This mystery is set in 1930s Honolulu. Art theft and murder are the order of the day, as a newspaper reporter and playwright set off to investigate. A portrait of a bygone era is painted as the pair meet with a variety of characters ranging from an antiques and explosives expert to a hula chanter and dancer. Their search for the killer leads them through Honolulu society and its tapestry of classes and local-versus-mainlander attitudes.

The author will be visiting bookstores around Oahu to sign copies of her book on the following dates:

» Saturday: Barnes & Noble, Ala Moana, 2 p.m.
» Thursday, Aug. 21: Native Books/Na Mea Hawaii, Ward Warehouse, 6:30 p.m., with a reading by the author and friends
» Saturday, Aug. 23: Borders, Pearlridge, noon
» Sunday, Aug. 24: Borders, Ward Centre, 2 p.m.
