Victorino injures Braves’ McCann

PHILADELPHIA » Atlanta Braves All-Star catcher Brian McCann left the game yesterday against the Phillies after Shane Victorino ran him over in the sixth inning.

It appeared Victorino collided into McCann helmet to mask. McCann stayed down for a couple of minutes, before walking off the field on his own. There was no immediate word on McCann's injury.

Victorino scored on Ryan Howard's single to right field, jarring the ball loose upon making impact.

Stanley helps US to volleyball title

Former Hawaii opposite Clay Stanley had 12 kills, including the final three points of the match as the U.S. Men's National Volleyball Team won its first FIVB World League title yesterday by defeating Serbia 26-24, 23-25, 25-23, 25-22 in the gold medal match before a crowd of 5,700 at Maracanazinho Gymnasium in Rio de Janeiro.

The U.S. Men, ranked third in the world, finish World League with a record of 12-4. Russia defeated host Brazil, the five-time defending World League champion 25-23, 25-19, 23-25, 25-19 to take the bronze medal.

Team USA won $1 million for the tournament victory.

Raindrop wins Pacific Cup

After 2,070 miles of racing, Raindrop captured the Pacific Cup yesterday, edging runner-up Hula Girl to win both the overall fleet and Division 1 titles. Hula Girl captured Division A, Checkered Past won Division B, Sleeping Dragon won Division D and Criminal Mischief claimed the Division F title.

A total of 24 yachts out of the 60 entered have finished the race spanning from San Francisco to Kaneohe. The remaining boats are expected to reach Kaneohe Yacht Club today.

Maata, Tribler move on in Night Doubles

Second seeds Mikael Maata and Jan Tribler had little problem advancing in the Kailua Blue Moon Men's Night Doubles tennis tournament last night, beating Colin Fujishige and Daniel Llarenas 6-1, 6-0.

Other winners were eighth-seed Billy Ball and Torin Ching, 6-2, 6-4 over Alex Ching and David Comb. Michael Lim and Thomas Schubert outlasted Spencer Mendoza and Derek Morrison 5-7, 6-1, 6-4.

Aloha Region Youth volleyball wins gold

The Aloha Region B volleyball team won the gold for the Boys' National Youth/Select Championship yesterday defeating USA Youth Silver 12-25, 26-24, 25-21, 21-25, 18-16 at Colorado Springs.

Also taking home honors were the Aloha Region A team that won the Silver in the Gold division of the Boys' International Youth Division Championships.
