Benefit in black and white
Club Monaco has partnered with the Honolulu Academy of Arts and Art After Dark to host "See the World in Black and White," as part of its in-store grand opening celebration.
The event, which will feature the debut of a black-and-white photo exhibit by Mark Arbeit, Naomi Olson and Aaron Padilla, will begin with a 6:30 p.m. unveiling Wednesday, with free appetizers and cocktails. The photos will be available for purchase, starting at $175, with proceeds benefiting the museum and ARTafterDARK.
"We believe in art, and cultural philanthropy is definitely a part of who we are," said Tina Gershoff, Club Monaco's vice president for retail. The exhibition echoes Club Monaco's classic black-and-white clothing palette and store design.
Mark Arbeit is a Honolulu-based photographer whose work has appeared in fashion publications including French Vogue and Marie Claire as well as Style, People and Forbes. He is currently working on a study of Hawaii.
Naomi Olson is a Honolulu artist and photographer working on a project, "Night Time Landscapes," exploring the perception of light and time.
Aaron Padilla is an art educator at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, Sacred Hearts Academy and the Art Center at Linekona whose work in a variety of media has been shown locally and internationally.
The exhibit will be on view in Club Monaco's Ala Moana Center store through the end of July. The store also will feature a permanent gallery wall highlighting past campaign images by famed photographers including Richard Avedon, Mario Testino and Patrick Demarchalier.
