Nature’s palette
For photographer Noah Orr, the natural world presents an endless tableau of photographic possibilities. "There's something really spiritual about it. I like being able to show people the beauty of what's out there," he says.
Orr, virtually a self-taught photographer, has been shooting for about a year and a half using digital cameras. "I've never taken any formal classes," he says. But the passion clicked when he first started shooting. "I've been on fire since I first picked up a camera. ...
"I started out doing nature and landscape photography. And I'm trying to transition from it being a hobby to more of a business," says Orr. But even through that evolution, Orr continues to be drawn to his roots: "I like just being out in nature in general, and being able to capture it and bring it home."
The photos on this page follow a theme of details and close-ups of objects in nature Orr found while hiking and traveling around Hawaii.
"I'm trying to show ordinary things and what real miracles they are," he says.
Orr will have his work on display in the Haleiwa Art Festival on July 19 and 20. You can also see more of his work at his Web site, www.noahjorr.com.
