‘The Secret’ makes God available to everyone

I often wondered what made the DVD and book "The Secret" so successful. I believe it is because it offered a simple and effective system for people to participate in actively improving their lives.

It also had universal spiritual appeal. The fact that God is not mentioned by any name except the "Universe" made this approach to spirituality broad and inclusive rather than closed and exclusive. It gave hope to everyone that in these challenging times they could be empowered to improve the quality and happiness of their lives no matter what spiritual path they were on.

God was no longer just someone who resided in heaven and distributed blessings to those who prayed in a certain way to a particular God. "The Secret" portrayed the Universe as a personal force with equal access to blessings for everyone.

The core idea of "The Secret" was the Law of Attraction, which I will abbreviate as the LOA. The LOA says that whatever you think about, you bring about. A person need not believe in a certain holy book or in a proprietary deity in order to experience the power of God working in their lives. God is everywhere and available to everyone.

My ideas have been adapted from various sources and do not necessarily reflect the beliefs of any particular religion or spiritual path.

My LOA system has five steps:

First, you must ask. Many people feel that God should know what they want, so they never ask. This is akin to ordering from a catalog store and asking the order taker to just send us something they think we would like. If you are not clear on what we want, the Universe will not know what to send you.

Second, you must believe. Many people are asking, but they do not believe that they will receive it. The LOA is clear that this component is much more about your feelings and having faith that you will receive what you ask for rather than just your thinking about it. There must be an emotion of expectancy rather than only thoughts of what we want.

Third, you must take action to co-create what you want. Many people expect God to totally manifest what they want without any action on their part. As Benjamin Franklin said, "God helps those who help themselves." This step is probably the biggest missing piece for those who have not been successful using the LOA.

Fourth, you must receive what you want when the Universe delivers it to you. Many people block their good by feelings of unworthiness, and this stops the LOA from working for them.

Last, you must be grateful for what has been given to you. When you are grateful the Universe sends more great stuff your way.

These steps are a simple and easy way to create a path of abundance in all areas of your life.
