A raku reduction bin caught fire Saturday as pottery was transferred from the kiln at the Hawaii Craftsmen Raku Ho'olaule'a 2008. The process facilitates the reduction of the glaze and brings out the distinctive carbon black and metallic properties on the pottery's finish. Since 1977 the event has brought together artists, instructors and the public to explore the traditional Japanese ceramic art, which dates back to the 16th century. Pictured are Pat McLane, Ming Xi Yang and John Margenau. More events are scheduled through July. For more information, visit hawaiicraftsmen.org.
