Honolulu ranked top spot for families

Honolulu tops the list of the 100 best places in the United States to raise a family, according to Best Life magazine.

Best Life, a men's magazine, ranked these U.S. cities as the best to raise a family:
1. Honolulu
2. Virginia Beach, Va.
3. Billings, Mont.
4. Columbus, Ga.
5. San Diego

The men's magazine cited state spending on education -- $9,876 per public school student -- and an unemployment rate less than half the national average as reasons for the choice. "And you can play on the island of Oahu's 125 beaches," said the evaluation by magazine editors.
They used information from various sources, from the U.S. Census Bureau to the American Association of Museums, in evaluating 257 cities.
The magazine's list of worst cities for families included Waco, Texas; Philadelphia; Fayetteville, N.C.; Beaumont, Texas; and Clarksville, Tenn.
