HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETICS
12 added to Hall of Honor
Twelve more outstanding student-athletes have been inducted into the Hawaii High School Hall of Honor.
The dozen were selected from a large field of nominees by a statewide committee of athletics administrators and media. The inductees include five from Punahou, one of the largest contingents from a single school ever.
» Tani Ader, Farrington. She is one of the top wrestlers and judoka in state history.
» Lake Casco, Lahainaluna. A two-way standout in football -- and Star-Bulletin All-State first-team pick -- and two-time state wrestling champion.
» Daniel Chow, Punahou. A three-time state wrestling champion in three weight classes.
» Kanani Herring, Kamehameha. Led the Warriors to three girls volleyball state championships in a row and was voted player of the year each year. She will play at the University of Hawaii this fall.
» Tiffany Ikeda-Simao, Kauai. A perennial All-KIF soccer pick and a state-level track standout. She won the 100-meter dash at the state championships on Saturday, ran on the winning 4x100 relay team, placed second in the triple jump and fifth in the long jump.
» Harrison "Jeeter" Ishida, Punahou. A two-time Star-Bulletin All-State pick in baseball (not including the recently completed season, which hasn't been selected yet) and pitcher of the year. Ishida will play at Arizona State next year.
» Shawna-Lei Kuehu, Punahou. A three-time Star-Bulletin player of the year in girls basketball. Overcame a knee injury to lead the Buffanblu to a third state crown in four years.
» Dara Pagaduan, Kamehameha. Standout softball player and former track standout. With the change of soccer season, she was able to play varsity soccer for the first time and helped the Warriors to a state title.
» Erik Shoji, Punahou. The crafty, talented All-State first-team libero was also a two-time boys doubles state champion in tennis. Shoji helped Punahou capture the Interscholastic League of Honolulu crown this spring.
» Jamie Smith, Iolani. A four-time Star-Bulletin All-State girls basketball selection who was unsurpassed in double-doubles for points and rebounds.
» Kolten Wong, Kamehameha-Hawaii. An outstanding running back is also a premier catcher and second baseman on the diamond.
» Michelle Yoshida, Punahou. Amassed 15 medals as one of the state's best swimmers.
The inductees will be honored by the Hawaii High School Athletic Association Foundation at a banquet June 8 at the Sheraton Waikiki.
