Olsen's paper wins Marine Option award
Five students in the University of Hawaii at Hilo Marine Option Program took top honors April 19 in the 25th Annual Marine Option Program Student Symposium.
This year's award for the Best Research Paper went to UH-Hilo student Nathan Olsen. This is the 16th year a Hilo student has won. Awards for best poster went to Nicholas Seferovic, Cory Hungate, Darren Roberts and Gillian Wysock. Hungate and Seferovic also presented individual research talks.
Other participants were Julien Christopher, Christeena Kelly, Sarah Rollings and Kathy Seiber.
Sacred Hearts Academy Head of School Betty White has been selected as the 2008 University of Mary Washington Distinguished Alumnus. Under White's leadership, Sacred Hearts has been selected as a National Service Learning School and most recently as one of only 10 schools to be named a National School of Character.
White also initiated community wide symposiums for girls on financial literacy, math power and science/technology, and was instrumental in overseeing the building of the academy's $10 million performing arts center. She is an active member on the National Coalition of Girls Schools Board of Trustees. Her alma mater is in Fredericksburg, Va.
