Although it looks like this rather menacing shark is about to take a bite of 4-year-old Milika'a Wells, left, and Kyle Madriaga, 9, the kids were just having fun sliding down one of the inflatables at the 10th Annual E Malama I Ke Kai Festival yesterday. The festival was an ocean awareness event benefiting the nonprofit Hawaiian language immersion program Punana Leo o Kawaiaha'o. The festival featured native Hawaiian informational booths, craft booths, food booths, musicians, keiki rides, surf and swim lessons, safety demonstrations and Interactive ocean and culture exhibits.

Lauren Chinn barely missed a touch against Jesse Miyamoto in a pool match to determine seeding in the finals in the U.S. Fencing Association's Hawaii Division championships held yesterday at the Ala Wai Golf Course clubhouse ballroom. Jesse won 5-4 in the senior foil division match. Timothy Scanson, the Hawaii division officer for the U.S. Fencing Association, said the best match was John-Rolf Oakley beating Lauren 15-14 in the semifinal.
