POWER LINE FALLS ON LIKELIKE HIGHWAYBARRY MARKOWITZ / SPECIAL TO THE STAR-BULLETIN
A Clinical Laboratory vehicle, headed toward Kaneohe, was damaged yesterday after an electric cable fell down on Likelike Highway at about 8 a.m. There were no injuries. Weather permitting, utility work by Hawaiian Electric Co. at the site, near the merge from the H-3 Kaneohe offramp, will close one lane in each direction from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. today and tomorrow.

BUDDY POPPIES FOR VETS
CINDY ELLEN RUSSELL / CRUSSELL@STARBULLETIN.COMRoy K. Machado sold a Buddy Poppy downtown yesterday to raise money for programs by the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Machado served in the Marine Corps and is helping to prepare for this month's Memorial Day services on May 26.

Gardens that the different ethnic populations grew during the plantation days in Hawaii are at the Hawaii Plantation Village in Waipahu. Clifford Wong and his wife, Lee, walked in the taro patch Tuesday. They were there taking out weeds and snails that eat the taro and water chestnuts that were growing there.
