Hawaii Pacific Federal Credit Union
collected 1,077 pounds of food for the
Hawaii Foodbank's annual food drive.
Jacqueline Ho, a senior at Kamehameha Schools' Kapalama campus, and Megan Nakahara, an eighth-grader at Hawaii Preparatory Academy, are the state's top high school and middle school volunteers of the year, respectively. They are winners in the 13th annual Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, receiving $1,000, an engraved silver medallion and a free trip to the award finals in Washington, D.C., this week. For the past seven years, Ho has spent much time as a Special Olympics Hawaii volunteer, inspired by her mother, vice president of the nonprofit, and her father, who volunteers as a weightlifting coach. Nakahara played a major role in collecting data and raising awareness about the endangered Hawaiian green sea turtle.
