UH's Daly earns conference honor

Hawaii pitcher Matthew Daly was named the Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week yesterday.

Daly made two appearances against Nevada, throwing one perfect inning of relief.

Daly then starting the Sunday game taking a no-hitter into the seventh inning. Daly struck out seven and allowed only two hits and no runs in 7 2/3 innings. Daly is now 5-2 for the year with 58 strikeouts and a 4.10 ERA.

Marr qualifies for Ironman

Mililani's Tim Marr qualified for the Ironman World Championship in October by placing third in the Ironman China on Sunday.

Marr finished the 2.4-mile swim, the 112-mile bike and the 26.2-mile run in 9 hours, 14 minutes, 17 seconds. He was a little more than 22 minutes behind event winner Olaf Sabatschus.

Wahine in lead at WAC Championships

The Hawaii women's golf team is in the lead after the first day at the Western Athletic Conference Championships at Sunnyside Golf Course in Fresno, Calif.

The Rainbow Wahine finished the first round at 13-over-par 301. Hawaii holds an eight-shot lead over Fresno State and San Jose State.

Corie Hou led the Rainbow Wahine and is tied for first individually after an even-par 72. Two other Hawaii golfers landed in the top 10 individually.

Xyra Suyetsugu is tied for fourth at 3 over, and Lisa Kajihara is tied for seventh at 4 over.

Wahine volleyball golf tourney set

The annual Rainbow Wahine Golf Tournament, a fundraiser for the Hawaii women's volleyball team, is set for May 1 at the Leilehua Golf Course.

Entry fee for the three-person scramble is $175 per person. The cost includes cart, greens fee, lunch, dinner and awards.

Goulding tied at top in PacWest golf

Hawaii-Hilo is in third place heading into today's second round of the three-day Hawaiian Airlines PacWest Men's Golf Championship.

The Vulcans shot an aggregate 21-over 309 yesterday at the Turtle Bay Resort Palmer Course.

Logan Goulding of Hawaii-Hilo is tied with two others for the individual lead at 2-over 74.

The Vulcans' Zady Ari is at 5-over 77 and tied for seventh.

Brigham Young-Hawaii's Derek Hall is tied for 10th at 7-over 79. He's competing as an individual and his score does not count to the Seasiders' team total of 330, which is good enough for fifth place out of seven teams.

Hawaii Pacific, led by Adam Istvan's 77, is in sixth place at 332.

Chaminade is in last place at 376.

Walls named pitcher of the week

Chaminade's Chelsi Walls earned conference pitcher of the week honors yesterday.

The freshman went 2-0 last week with a 3.00 ERA. She tossed two complete games and walked three in 14 innings.
