A possibly pregnant monk seal hauled itself onto Richardson's Beach yesterday in Hilo. The seal, dubbed "Lighthouse Mom" by volunteers, has given birth to six pups in the past six years, said Melissa Netze, coordinator for the Hilo Marine Mammal Response Network. Fisherman Bruce Dato watched as the monk seal fell asleep after crawling onto the sandy beach.

Gas Co. workers and Hono- lulu Fire Department firefighters worked yesterday to fix a gas leak from a ruptured line at the intersection of Metcalf Street and Wilder Avenue in Makiki. A vehicle collision caused the leak. All traffic was diverted from the intersection.

Last-minute federal income tax filers dropped their returns into specially marked mailboxes yesterday at the downtown post office, curbside along Richards Street, to get them stamped before the midnight mail pickup. Amie Fujiwara and Jesse Greenleaf were among those who sent in returns right before the deadline.
