State labor department to host jobless-worker counseling

The state will hold meetings and tomorrow to help former workers of ATA and Aloha Airlines, as well as 85 workers at Weyerhaeuser Co., which is closing May 12.
The Hawaii Department of Labor and Industrial Relations' rapid-response team will provide counseling, career planning and other services today from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at 830 Punchbowl St., Suite 310-314.
Tomorrow's meeting will be from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Neal Blaisdell Center exhibition hall. Participants also will receive information on welfare and medical benefits.
Also this week, the Hawaii Medical Service Association will provide Aloha employees information about their health care coverage.
There will be three, 1 1/2 -hour sessions on Thursday beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the HMSA Center at 818 Keeaumoku St., followed by two sessions on Friday starting at 1 p.m. Interested Aloha employees should make a reservation by calling HMSA at 948-5555.
The state also has announced upcoming job fairs.
