SPRUCING UP FOR SPRING
JAMM AQUINO / JAQUINO@STARBULLETIN.COM
Volunteers Charo McGee, right, and Layla Santos, 7, repainted a hopscotch grid at Ala Wai Elementary School yesterday. American Savings Bank employees and their families volunteered their time "spring cleaning" at the school, cleaning it up and repainting school facilities. The bank also donated supplies. More than 50 employees from the Kapiolani, Ala Moana, Queen Ward and Honolulu Wal-Mart branches participated in the project, part of the bank's Seeds of Service employee program, which enables employees to do volunteer work on Oahu and the neighbor islands. Implemented bank-wide in 2005, the program has resulted in employees contributing more than 5,000 hours to schools and nonprofit organizations.
