Police arrested a student at Kamaile Elementary Public Charter School yesterday for allegedly striking a teacher, while four students at nearby Waianae High School also were arrested after multiple fights erupted on campus.
The Kamaile student, a boy, was arrested for second-degree assault for causing minor injury to the teacher's face, said Michelle Yu, spokeswoman for the Honolulu Police Department. She declined to give the student's age. Kamaile Elementary is a kindergarten-through-sixth-grade school on Ala Akau Street in Waianae.
A Kamaile Elementary employee who answered the phone said there were no administrators on campus to comment, and hung up when asked for information about the case.
Reshela DuPuis, executive director of the Charter School Administrative Office, declined to comment.
In a separate incident, four male Waianae High students were arrested for assault at 11:15 a.m., after more than one fight happened at the campus, police said.
A message seeking comment from Waianae High Principal JoAnn Kumasaka was not immediately returned yesterday.
