UH meets with AD finalists
The University of Hawaii began meeting with finalists for its vacant athletic director post yesterday.
Sources told the Star-Bulletin that Hawaii Bowl executive director Jim Donovan and Hilo Community College chancellor Rockne Freitas were interviewed by the search committee headed by Manoa chancellor Virginia Hinshaw yesterday. Both candidates declined comment.
Donovan and Freitas are both former UH associate athletic directors.
UH associate athletic director Marilyn Moniz-Kaho'ohanohano said she was scheduled for an interview today.
Interim athletic director Carl Clapp is also expected to be interviewed. He also declined comment.
"I'm not going to comment on the search until its conclusion," Clapp said. "I'm going to let the process run its course."
Herman Frazier was dismissed as UH athletic director Jan. 8. Clapp has served as temporary and interim AD since.
When the committee selects a candidate, he or she must be approved by the Board of Regents.
Frazier was athletic director since 2002. He was paid a salary of $250,000 per year.
