China's martial arts featured in lecture

Stanley E. Henning will give a free lecture on Chinese martial arts at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow at the University of Hawai'i-Manoa, Moore Hall 119.

A UH graduate, practitioner of Taijiquan and martial arts scholar, Henning will speak on "Traumatic Passage -- The Face of Traditional Chinese Martial Arts in the 20th and 21st Centuries."

Beamers offering Aloha Music Camp

Aloha Music Camp provides an opportunity to learn slack-key guitar, ukulele, Hawaiian language and hula, with the Beamer family, including Keola, Moanalani, Nona and Kaliko Beamer-Trapp, offering workshops and evening concerts at Molokai Ranch.

Beyond music, participants also learn how to prepare poke, reef fish and laulau. Camp is scheduled for Feb. 3 to 9 and again in June.

WCC presents 'Instant Piano'

Windward Community College presents an "Instant Piano for Hopelessly Busy People" workshop from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Monday.

Instructor Robert Laughlin explains the fundamentals of chord piano playing for adults.

Laughlin, a professional pianist, author and teacher, inspired "Piano in a Flash" on public television.

Cost is $45; plus a $25 lab fee, which includes a book and CD. Call 235-7433.
