Senior Bowl limited to NFL Network
If you want to watch Colt Brennan or Jordon Dizon in the Under Armour Senior Bowl on Saturday, you'd better have a satellite dish or not mind going to a bar or restaurant to see it at 11 a.m.
The game is being televised nationally, but by the NFL Network. That means it is not available via cable, and most Hawaii viewers won't be able to watch at home.
"The NFL Network has those rights and owns it. They don't sell (the rights) to any games," said Alan Pollock, vice president for marketing for Oceanic Time Warner. "We're very disappointed. It's a great product and we know our subscribers want it, but (the NFL Network) won't budge. They just won't play ball with us, pardon the pun."
NFL Network and Oceanic's parent company, Time Warner, have been unable to come to an agreement that would permit showing of the NFL Network games. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell made a one-time exception for the New England Patriots-New York Giants game on Dec. 29. That game was simulcast on CBS, NBC and the NFL Network.
The Dallas Cowboys-Green Bay Packers game on Nov. 29 was a notable NFL Network game this season to which most Hawaii viewers did not have access.
"A few of the biggest cable operators have refused to negotiate," Steve Bornstein, NFL Network president and CEO, told the Kansas City Star last month. "We call on them to do what's right for their consumers and negotiate agreements for NFL Network that make sense for everybody."
