Superferry holds off on adding Maui trip
WAILUKU » Hawaii Superferry officials have decided to postpone the addition of a second Oahu-Maui trip, which had been scheduled to start tomorrow.
Superferry officials said in consideration of Mayor Charmaine Tavares' concerns, they were postponing their second voyage between Maui and Oahu.
Superferry spokeswoman Lori Abe said company officials planned to meet with Tavares before starting the second Oahu-Maui trip.
Superferry President John Garibaldi said yesterday that the company anticipates starting the second voyage this spring.
On Friday, Tavares criticized Superferry officials for announcing a second trip to Maui without consulting with the county. The mayor said the Superferry remained a contentious matter in the community and that county officials should have been consulted.
Officials said customers who have made reservations for travel on the second Maui voyages will be either issued refunds or accommodated on an alternative voyage.
