Foody earns spot in Olympic trials

Former University of Hawaii runner Cheryl Foody won the OC Marathon in Orange County, Calif., yesterday with a time of 2 hours, 38 minutes, 38 seconds.

The victory earns her a spot in the U.S. Olympic team trials in Boston in April.

Foody won the OC Marathon in 2004 and her previous personal best was a 2:47:01 in the 2001 Honolulu Marathon. She ran for UH as Cheryl Smith and graduated in 2002.

Bears defeat Rainbow Wahine in tennis

No. 13 Baylor beat Hawaii 6-1 in women's tennis at the UH Tennis Complex yesterday.

It was the second straight loss for the Rainbow Wahine (0-2) against a nationally ranked team.

Lenka Broosovsa led the way for the Bears, winning her No. 2 singles match and her No. 1 doubles match along with Zuzana Zemenova.

Sophie Kobuch gave Hawaii its only win of the day. in No. 1 singles. She was leading 2-6, 5-5 when Taylor Ormond retired.
