Windward utility pole falls, knocks out power
A fallen utility pole left about 1,500 people in the dark on Oahu's Windward side yesterday afternoon, a Hawaiian Electric Co. spokesman said.
At 3:57 p.m. the pole fell on Lilipuna Road, causing some street blockage. Crews were still determining yesterday why the pole fell, said HECO spokesman Peter Rosegg.
Crews restored power by 5:20 p.m. to all but about 50 customers.
The areas affected were Kapunahala, Heeia and around Lilipuna Road.
Windward Mall security said the mall was not affected by the outage.
