Cocktail, anyone?

A few new ideas for holiday imbibing come courtesy of the Beverage Arts Challenge held recently at the Halekulani. The national competition brought three finalists, chosen from among 250 entrants, to Hawaii to compete in creating the best cocktail with Grand Marnier.
The winner was Matt Martinez, head bartender at the Beverly Hills Hotel and Bungalows, for his Sunset Sour. Runners-up were Patricia Richards of the Wynn Las Vegas and Sierra Lesjack of the Four Seasons San Francisco.
Sunset Sour
Matt Martinez
1-1/4 ounces Grand Marnier
1-1/4 ounces orange liqueur
1/4 ounce lemon juice
1/4 ounce simple syrup
1/4 ounce egg white
Combine ingredients in martini glass. Garnish with long orange twist.
The Pommarita
Sierra Lesjack
3/4 ounce Grand Mariner
1-1/2 ounces tequila
1/4 ounce pomegranate liqueur
Splash pomegranate juice
Splash of lime juice
Splash of orange juice
Splash simple syrup
Combine ingredients in martini glass rimmed with lime zest, salt and sugar mixture. Garnish with lime and orange peels.

2 ounces ginger beer
1/4 ounce passion fruit purée
1/2 ounce simple syrup
1-1/2 ounces sweet-and-sour mix
Combine ingredients in tall glass. Garnish with slice of fresh passion fruit.
