Marc Resorts Hawaii expanded its presence on Oahu yesterday by taking over the management contract for the Hawaiian Monarch Hotel, a budget Waikiki high-rise.

Marc Resorts took over management of the Waikiki hotel from Principle Hotels & Resorts yesterday.

The Hawaiian Monarch Hotel, located at the gateway to Waikiki adjacent to Kalakaua Avenue on Niu Street, is the ninth property for Marc in Hawaii and the company's second property on Oahu.

The strategic Waikiki location of the Hawaiian Monarch Hotel, combined with the enhanced residential condominium vacation rental program, will greatly expand the availability of economy accommodations to Marc's Waikiki visitors and guests, said Paul Tomonari, Marc Resorts Hawaii executive vice president.

"Our goal is to create value for our clients (and) continue our management expansion into Waikiki," Tomonari said.

The kamaaina company, which is headquartered in Honolulu, now represents properties across four islands.

Marc's management contracts on Kauai include: Pono Kai, Pali Ke Kua at Princeville, Marc Puu at Princeville and Marc Hale Moi Cottages. It manages the Aloha Mauai Vista Resort on Maui and the Hotel Molokai and Marc Molokai Shores on Molokai. In addition to the Hawaiian Monarch Hotel on Oahu, Marc represents the Marc Diamond Head Beach Hotel & Residences.
