SPARTANS A HIT AT COSTUME EVENT
A squad of armed Spartans stole the show Oct. 20 when the Slopes of Diamond Head Hui presented "Crazy, Sexy, Ghoul," a pre-Halloween costume party, at Aloha Tower Marketplace. A crowd of about 1,800 enjoyed 4 1/2 hours of revelry on two levels of the marketplace, and many wanted photos with the Spartan phalanx. Spartans Leroy Kane, back row left, Kalani Matsuura, Hoala Greevy, Forest Frizzell, Craig Teruya and Thomas Lee posed with their own Spartan women: Kelly Morrow, Grace Kang, Jessica Westbrooks and Lina Chan.

Jazzie Chen, left, wore a black "bunny" costume with fishnet stockings. Abeth Insong described herself as a "naughty nurse."

Derek Ichiyama, left, professional stuntman Darin Fujimori and Dean Horie accessorized their "money man" suits with plenty of bling -- oversize rings, medallions and Fujimori's "grill" (dental jewelry) -- and carried wads of "cheddar" (fake money).

Brooke Nakamura, left, watched the passing parade of colorful costumes with Misha Tajima, Tricia Ejima, Cherie Souphilavong and Slopes of Diamond Head Hui member Stephanie Ching.

Leon Liem, left, enjoyed the VIP area with "'70s film star" Nick Fisher and "Nevada highway patrolman" Zach Fisher as the party continued past midnight. Bar service was fast and smooth throughout the evening, and although people loosened up as they got into character, the vibe remained light and happy. Hui members distributed free pizza as the party wound down.
