HAWAII

Football playoffs resume tomorrow

Kapolei has never beaten Kahuku. Kalaheo, at least in recent years, has not toppled Waianae.

And yet, when the Oahu Interscholastic Association Red Conference football playoffs resume tomorrow, unprecedented history could be in the making.

Meanwhile, in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu, Saint Louis can clinch the Division I title with a win over Pac-Five. An upset win by Pac-Five would keep hopes alive for second-place Punahou.

Sharks pick up a game on 'Boys

Brad Suttle hit a three-run homer over the left-field fence in the second inning to lead Honolulu to an 8-3 victory over Waikiki yesterday in Hawaii Winter Baseball at Hans L'Orange Field.

The Sharks (11-9-1) increased their East Division lead over the BeachBoys (9-12) to 2 1/2 games.

Takumi Kobe went 3-for-4 and Austin Jackson hit a solo homer.

George Kontos (3-2, 3.72 ERA) picked up the victory, allowing eight hits and three runs through 4 1/3 innings.

Jermaine Mitchell and Michael Wilson both went 2-for-3 for Waikiki.

» North Shore won its fifth straight game with a 7-5 victory over West Oahu last night at Hans L'Orange Field.

The Honu (15-6) have won all seven meetings this season against the CaneFires (6-14-1) and hold a comfortable 8 1/2-game lead in the West Division.

North Shore broke a 1-1 tie with four runs in the fifth and two more in the seventh to pull away.

The CaneFires' rally in the ninth came up short.

Shinya Nakayama earned the victory with nine strikeouts in six innings.

Andrew Feldmann and Larry Stubblefield won their sixth consecutive Aloha Section PGA 4-Ball Match Play Championship yesterday at the Oahu Country Club.

Feldmann and Stubblefield beat the father-son team of Ron Castillo Sr. and Ron Castillo Jr. 4 and 3 in the final.

UHH off to 10-0 start in conference

Hawaii-Hilo improved to 10-0 in PacWest volleyball by beating Dixie State 30-27, 30-22, 30-16 last night at Hilo.
